Nose Surgery

Many people arrive to our Manhattan and New Jersey offices wanting to change the way their nose looks. In fact, rhinoplasty, or surgery to reshape the nose, is one of the most commonly requested plastic surgery procedures among our patients in the Manhattan and New Jersey area. Through rhinoplasty, our surgeons can reduce or increase nose size as well as change the shape of the tip or bridge, narrow the span of the nostrils, or change the angle between the nose and upper lip. They can also correct a birth defect or injury, or help relieve breathing problems such as a deviated septum.

Our plastic surgeons have superb training in all types of rhinoplasty surgery including revision rhinoplasty that is, correcting the results of rhinoplasty surgery performed elsewhere. It is estimated that upwards of 15% of patients undergoing rhinoplasty surgery are dissatisfied with the resultant appearance of their nose, or have inadvertent breathing difficulties as a result of poorly performed rhinoplasty surgery. At the New Jersey and Manhattan locations of the Plastic Surgery Center, our plastic surgeons commonly perform revision rhinoplasty and have excellent rates of success at restoring an aesthetically pleasing and functional nose.

Another area of rhinoplasty in which our plastic surgeons excel is in performing ethnic rhinoplasty, or rhinoplasty in individuals of non-Caucasian descent. Ethnic rhinoplasty requires an additional level of skill and experience, as the characteristics of non-Caucasian noses are very different from those of Caucasian noses. In addition, the key to a successful rhinoplasty is to create a natural appearing enhancement that maintains one's ethnic balance and facial harmony. Ethnic rhinoplasty requires that the surgeon use techniques that may be different from those typically used in Caucasian rhinoplasty operations, and the expert surgeons at the New Jersey Plastic Surgery Center understand those techniques required to perform successful ethnic rhinoplasties.

Many patients have concerns both about the way their nose looks and about difficulties breathing through their nose. Whereas some surgeons may have the ability to deal with either cosmetic issues or breathing difficulties, it is less common to find skilled surgeons that can handle both types of problems. When our surgeon performs a rhinoplasty procedure on one of our Manhattan or New Jersey area patients, he often makes small incisions around the nostril rims, precisely trims extra cartilage from the nasal bump or the round tip, then he narrows the flattened bridge by carefully cutting and resetting the nasal bones. The surgeon then performs the final shaping and contouring before stitching closed the incisions.
